On Saturday evening I headed for Trim, Co. Meath through the dark clouds and rain, to the Old Rectory.   Trim is full of history –  among other Trim Castle (a Norman Castle, the largest of it’s kind in Ireland), the famous setting for some Braveheart battles, the ruins of St Mary’s Abbey (said to have been founded by St Patrick).  Musically – the town hall is reputed to have been the venue for one of Thin Lizzy’s first gigs!  Trim is also well known for it’s Vintage Car Rally – which may have been the last time I visited Trim with my Grandfather, around the time that they were filming Braveheart!

The gig took place in the Butler room, a sun filled room with two incredibly intricate Japanese Wedding Kimonos hanging on the walls!

her funds After a welcome of some wine and tapas (made by the wonderful Aoife McElwain) in the living room downstairs, everyone was invited to the Butler Room where Frances Haworth welcomed everyone and informed us all about Tekera Primary School in Uganda, where the proceeds of the night will go.  The Duffy Brothers, Tom and Aidan, opened the show, and finished the set with a bit of Bob Dylan, especially requested by the lady of the house, Martina.

After a quick changeover (and some more wine and tapas!) , I started to play.  The audience were amazing – listening, singing along and being very generous with their applause!   At the end of the evening there was a raffle, for further funds for the school – with loads of prizes!

Below is my set list – with a few songs missing – as we ran out of time on the night!

Thanks to Frances, Martina and all who came along for making it such a great night!
