Mark Geary – Irish Tour

Mark’s Irish tour took us all over Ireland over 3 weeks playing in Cork, Gaway, Donegal, Belfast, Dublin, Kerry, Mullingar and back to Cork again!  Hot water bottles were at the fore and we took the Connor Pass into Dingle – and played an instore for Mazz in the record store there!

Swiss Tour!

Mark, Nicole and I head off to Switzerland next week for some ‘Songs from Ireland‘ dates!  Nicole and I have a double header gig in Zurich on the 10th December in Cafe Gothard and again in Ark Music shop on Tuesday 15th!

World tour of Co. Clare

I’ve been spending a lot of my time this year visiting parts of the Wild Atlantic Way!  Was excited to get to Lahinch to play Kenny’s Bar for the Whitehorse Sessions with Marlene Enright and Jack O’Rourke. I also got to pay a return visit to the lovely Record Break in Ennis for another little […]

Electric Picnic

Electric Picnic was crazy and kind in equal measure! Mark and I drove down on Saturday for our first performance – with a quick song on Newstalk’s Off the Ball (and some football talk that I avoided!) before we hit the stage at the Declan Sessions.  Glen Hansard jumped up for a song too!  Sunday […]

Vantastival

I was super excited to play the gorgeous GlassHouse stage at Vantastival on the 3rd June.  An amazing little room, with a creeping green backdrop and a well!

West coast adventures – June 2017

Part one – LA bound!  I flew out to LA on the 4th June – and had already decided at that stage to extend my stay by another couple of weeks.  I flew Aerlingus direct to LA  – and it was a dream!  We flew over Greenland and Canada on the way and I was […]

Home Show……

Delighted to be taking part in the South Monaghan Arts Summer Showcase on the 19th of June in the Workhouse in Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan.

Schottenfest – Vienna

I was very excited to have been invited to play Schottenfest in Vienna – getting there proved a little difficult however! I had booked a flight with Air Berlin from the island of Sylt for the morning of the 2nd December – and a week before that I got a message from Shane in Vienna […]

Carlingford House Concert!

Was super excited to return to Carlingford on Friday night for Carlingford’s first house concert! Cormac opened his house to a lovely bunch of friends and strangers for a fab night!  You can check out a live stream of the second half of the gig on my facebook page!

Rehearsal!

Today we had a rehearsal, before we spend a day in pre-production tomorrow, for the recording of my first EP.  Very excited that I’m joined by James Cramer, Graham Hopkins and Lorcán O’Dwyer.  Really looking forward to getting into studio with these guys and recording!  Stay tuned for updates!!

Biography

Gráinne Hunt is a contemporary folk singer and songwriter, raised in Monaghan and based in Kildare, Ireland. With consistently on-point, captivating vocals and well-honed, insightful songs, Grainne has shared stages with Glen Hansard and U2, has opened for Gladys Knight, Eagle Eye Cherry and the Bay City Rollers, and has been compared to vocal icons Tracy Chapman and Nathalie Merchant.

Her ‘gorgeous new album’ (Mathieu Norry RTE Radio 1), This Secret, was released in September 2019. ‘[A] seamlessly gentle fusion of Irish folk and Nashville backing, together with Gráinne’s gorgeous, slightly throaty vocal delivery’ (FolkRadio.co.uk), it was recorded with Thomm Jutz (Nanci Griffith, Maura O’Connell) and features the skills of Mark Fain (Ry Cooder) on bass and Lynn Williams (John Hiatt) on drums.

2019 also saw the release of an Irish folk album, Songs from Ireland, recorded with award winning guitarist Brendan Walsh. Recorded last year in Soundville Studios Luzern, it includes songs Buachaill on Eirne and Raglan Road.

Despite 2020 cancellations, over the various lockdown periods Gráinne performed for the #IrelandPerforms initiative, joined Axis Ballymun for Cruinniú na nÓg & #SummerSessions, founded songwritercircle.club, created the first #AdventCalendarofSong (solo recordings of 24 Christmas songs released on social media every day in December) which included a collaboration with German choir Cantus Domus on a beautiful version of The Wexford Carol, and joined U2, Glen Hansard, and others for The Late Late Show Charity Busk.
